Groot Ship Design unveils pure-electric tanker for Japan

Groot Ship Design has unveiled a concept design for a new series of electric-powered bunker vessels.

The design phase of the vessels is part of a project initiated by Asahi Tanker and Exeno-Yamamitzu Corporation to introduce zero-emission bunker ships into commercial service.

Each bunker tanker in the proposed series will have a length of 60 metres, a width of 10.3 metres, and a total cargo capacity of 1,300 cubic metres.

The first vessel is scheduled for launching during the fourth quarter of 2020. It will operate in Tokyo Bay upon entering service.
