Dane County in Wisconsin has commenced dredging works to help improve water flow, flood storage capacity, and fish and wildlife habitat in the Yahara Lakes.

The dredging seeks to remove approximately 52,000 cubic yards (39,700 cubic metres) of sediment between Lake Waubesa and Lower Mud Lake.

The recently begun flood mitigation works constitute the second phase of the Yahara Chain of Lakes Sediment Removal Project. Three more phases will be carried out as the county secures permitting.

The current dredging is being performed by a 370hp (275kW) dredger acquired earlier this year from Ellicot Dredges of Baltimore.
