Atomflot takes delivery of newbuild icebreaker Ob

Russia’s Atomflot has taken delivery of Ob, a new icebreaker constructed by United Shipbuilding Corporation’s (USC) Vyborg Shipyard.

Designed by Finland’s Aker Arctic, Ob will be used primarily to escort LNG carriers in the approach channels of Sabetta Port on the Yamal Peninsula.

The icebreaker has a length of 89.2 metres, a beam of 21.9 metres, a draught of 6.5 metres, an icebreaking capacity of two knots in 1.5-metre level ice, and a crew of 28. Onboard facilities include a crew lounge, a sauna, a galley, a swimming pool, and a conference room.
