The Russian Ministry of Defence and Admiralty Shipyard have signed a contract for the construction of two additional Project 677 or Lada-class diesel-electric submarines.

This latest order will bring the number of planned ships in the class to five. This number includes lead ship Sankt Peterburg, which has been in service since 2010.

The submarines will each have a maximum submerged speed of 21 knots, a length of 66.8 metres, a hull diameter of 7.1 metres, a crew of 35, and an endurance of 45 days. Armament will include 533-millimetre torpedoes and Kalibr land attack and anti-ship missiles.
