Work continues at Finnish port

Finland’s Port of Rauma is moving ahead with plans for phase two and three of the Petäjäs development.

The €12.5 million (US$15.1 million) project, which starts in May and will be completed in the autumn of 2019, includes mining and filling of water areas.

When finished there will be nine hectares of new yard area for storage.

Port of Rauma Managing Director Hannu Asumalahti said the works include electrification, lighting, noise cancellation and landscaping.

The next phases follow the official opening of Rauma channel.

The completed work included the Rihtniemi channel deepening from 10 metres to 12 metres, the doubling of the container terminal extension, and the continuous 520-metre container berth that has added four hectares to the port.
