Ukraine continues operational dredging in Chernomorsk port

The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) continues to carry out operational dredging at Chernomorsk Port. The area is being cleaned of silt and foreign objects to restore navigation depths at the berths.

USPA hopes the result will be an increase in the competitiveness of Chernomorsk Port and the ability to simultaneously handle more than five vessels with a deadweight of 5,000 and draught of 12.2 metres.

“The USPA carries out dredging with the help of its own fleet, namely the Meotida dredger, which is on the balance of Delta-pilot branch. The works have begun in spring and continued until the spawning period, now they are renewed and will end approximately until August 20 of this year,” said Dmitry Gudko, the head of the USPA branch in Chernomorsk.

During the dredging period, the port will operate largely as usual, with no berths decommissioned.

As of July 11, the dredger had carried out work at berths 10,11,17,18 and 19. 36 runs have been completed, and 4,926m³ of soil has been removed.

The works are planned to be completed in 2017, with an estimated value of UAH110.12 million (US$4.25 million). The total volume of dredging will be 504.4 thousand cubic metres, over an area of 25.6 hectares.
