A ground-breaking ceremony held on Thursday, November 29, marked the beginning of a new port improvement project in Ziguinchor, Senegal.

The project entails the construction of a new fishing port within the overall Ziguinchor port area.

Senegal’s Agence National des Affaires Maritimes (ANAM) will carry out the dredging of the river and the construction of the dedicated fishing quay.

Previously, fishing vessels would moor at the commercial port, interrupting operations. Creating a dedicated area for fishing vessels with direct access to cold storage facilities will boost both local fishing business and free up the main port for import and export operations.
