Dutch firm unveils new 18-metre tug design

Netherlands-based the Damen Shipyards Group recently unveiled a new series of compact ASD tug.

Each vessel in the series will have a length of 18.25 metres, a beam of 10.23 metres, and a wheelhouse boasting an ergonomic layout and improved 360-degree visibility. The wheelhouse also has Damen’s proprietary shatterproof glazing to protect the occupants in the event of a towing line snap.

The equipment package will include a winch supplied by Damen Marine Components.

Siebe Cieraad, Damen Product Portfolio Manager for Tugs, said the deck is kept as clear as possible to help the captain have an unobstructed view of operations and to reduce the potential of tripping.
