Helsinki Shipyard in Finland recently floated out the second in a series of three expedition vessels ordered by UK cruise operator Swan Hellenic.

Like earlier sister SH Minerva, SH Vega is designed to meet the latest emission standards to minimise impact on the environment.

The main engines will be equipped with an exhaust gas cleaning system while the vessel itself will have advanced cleaning and storage facilities for wastewater, waste, and waste oil required for operation in sensitive polar areas.

The vessel will also be provided with space for batteries that can use electric propeller motors to move at low speeds and silently. This will make it possible to proceed in sensitive natural areas with minimal disturbance.

Onboard facilities will include an expedition laboratory, a library for studying marine life, a gym, a spa with sauna, a restaurant, a club room, and a swimming pool with bars. There will also be space for storing kayaks, hiking gear, and other expedition equipment for guests.

SH Vega is scheduled to be delivered in the spring of 2022.
