Helsinki Shipyard in Finland has launched the first expedition ship in a series of three ordered by UK cruise operator Swan Hellenic.

The 125-metre SH Minerva and its sisters will be fitted with diesel-electric hybrid propulsion systems that will enable silent cruising in environmentally sensitive areas. They will each also be equipped with exhaust gas cleaning, an advanced treatment system for wastewater, and storage facilities for waste that are required for operating in sensitive polar areas.

Delivery of the lead ship is scheduled for the autumn of 2021. The final two ships will be handed over by late 2022.
