Indian Waterways to gain ten roll-on ferries

The Indian Waterways Authority of India has ordered eight Ro-Pax and two Ro-Ro vessels from Cochin Shipyard at a cost of INR107.73 crore (USD$15.73 million).

The Ro-Pax vessels will have a carrying capacity of two trucks, four cars and 200 passengers per vessel while the Ro-Ros will hold a carrying capacity 15 TEU each. They will be deployed along various stretches of India’s national waterway.

Cochin Shipyard will design as well as construct the vessels. They will be built to standards set by the Indian Register of Shipping. All the ten vessels will be delivered within a contractual period of 18 months.
