A South Korean Navy sailor was killed while four others were injured as the ship they had been serving on was docking on Friday, May 24.

The Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin-class destroyer ROKS Choe Young had arrived at the naval base in Jinhae and was being secured to the dock when one of its mooring lines snapped as it was being tightened at 10:15 local time.

The snapping of the rope killed one sailor, who has been identified as a petty officer second class, and left four others with non-life-threatening injuries. One of the injured sailors has since returned to duty while the remaining three remain in hospital.

The South Korean Navy, which has launched an investigation into the incident, said that foul play is not suspected.
