Paraguay civil contractor orders custom-built dredger for five-year flood control project

Paraguay civil contractor Topografia y Caminos (T&C) has placed an order for a new custom-built cutter suction dredger from Damen Shipyards Group.

The 1,293kW dredger will be used to remove sand from the river near the country’s capital of Asuncion. A total of nine million cubic metres of sand will be removed from the river over the next five years to help mitigate annual flooding in the capital city.

Thanks to the dredger’s modular design, Damen will be able to deliver the vessel fully dismantled for on-site assembly. Damen will also provide training for the T&C crews who will operate the vessel.

The dredger is scheduled for delivery to Paraguay in the coming weeks.
