Canada’s Group Ocean orders two modular workboats

Canada-based Group Ocean has accepted the delivery of two modular multi-purpose dredging support vessels from Damen.

The 12.8-metre vessels, which are made of standard, container-sized units for easy transportation, will serve as dredging support vessels on a hard-to-access inland oil sands project in the north of Canada.

The vessels can be used for towing and anchor-handling, dive support, marine engineering, offshore energy operations and for dredging and dredging support operations.

Each has 306kW of power and a bollard pull of 4.8 tonnes.

The first delivery will take place next month, less than three months after the contract was signed.

It will be transported by truck to the site before being assembled for operation.

The second vessel, which is being built at Damen Shipyards Kozle in Poland, will follow in the second quarter.
