The Times of India reports that an Indian Navy sailor has died following a recent explosion on a nuclear-powered submarine undergoing construction.

The incident occurred at the Ship Building Centre in Vishakhapatnam on April 1. An onboard high-pressure air system (HPAS) reportedly suffered material failure during testing, which then led to the explosion.

The sailor, identified as 26-year-old Paramajit Singh, was rushed to hospital following the explosion but later succumbed to his injuries.

The navy has been ordered by a board of inquiry to conduct an investigation into the incident.

Navy officials have not disclosed the name of the submarine due to operational security concerns.
