Construction starts on new dive support vessels for Indian Navy

Kolkata-based shipbuilder Titagarh Wagons recently held a keel-laying ceremony to mark the official start of construction of a new class of dive support vessels (DSVs) ordered by the Indian Navy.

The DSVs’ secondary duties will include salvage operations, maintenance, and underwater repairs, particularly in and near harbours. All main and auxiliary equipment that will be fitted on the vessels will be sourced from indigenous manufacturers in compliance to an Indian government directive.

Five vessels will be built under a INR1.74 billion (US$24 million) contract awarded in early 2021.
