Damen crewboat awarded approval in principle from ABS

Damen Shipyards Group has received an approval in principle (AIP) for one of its high-speed crewboat designs from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).

To achieve the approval, Damen modified the design of its standard 27-metre fast crewboat to meet US requirements. Waterjets are now incorporated, and these are to be driven by engines that are compliant with US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.

Damen claims the crewboat is well-suited to the operating conditions on the US Atlantic coast. Its size ensures the vessel’s capability to continue operating during the winter period when smaller vessels will need to power down or even remain in harbour.
