OOS’ second semi-sub crane vessel begins construction

The construction of the semi-submersible crane vessel (SSCV) OOS Walcheren began at China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) on May 24.

This vessel will be identical to her sister vessel OOS Serooskerke, which is currently under construction at China Merchants in Haimen and due for delivery in mid-2019.

The series are multi-purpose, heavy lifting vessels which can perform decommissioning work, windmill installations, offshore accommodation as well as modular plug and abandonment.

The SSCVs feature a hotel which can accommodate 750 people, two heavy lift Huisman cranes with a total tandem lift capacity of 4,400 tonnes with subsea lifting and active compensation capability.

They can reach a top speed of 12 knots and are built in accordance to UK HSE legislation with valid safety case as well as ABS Habitability requirements.
