The US Coast Guard has taken delivery of a new Sentinel-class fast response cutter (FRC) built by Bollinger Shipyards of Louisiana.

The future USCGC David Duren is the first of three FRCs that will be homeported in Astoria, Oregon, as part of Sector Columbia River. This sector is responsible for coastal safety, security, and environmental protection, as well as protecting and securing vital infrastructure, rescuing mariners in peril at sea, enforcing federal law, maintaining navigable waterways, and responding to all hazards impacting the maritime transportation system along the Oregon coast.

The cutter honours Boatswain’s Mate Master Chief David N. Duren, a highly decorated coast guard sailor known for deploying on a high number of search and rescue (SAR) cases, including 250 in one year.

As with its Sentinel-class sisters, the future David Duren has a length of 154 feet (46.9 metres), a flank speed of 28 knots, state of the art C4ISR suite, and a stern launch and recovery ramp for a 26-foot (7.92-metre), over-the-horizon interceptor cutter boat.
