Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) and Mitsubishi Shipbuilding have completed the concept study on a combined ammonia/liquefied CO2 (LCO2) carrier.

MOL said that, as an LCO2 carrier, the vessel will play a key role in efficiently transporting captured LCO2 to storage reservoirs or usage sites in the value chains of carbon dioxide capture utilisation and storage (CCUS).

The vessel’s cargo tank capacity will be set at around 50,000 cubic metres.
