A fire broke out in the engine room of a Canadian oil tanker while it was docked at Imperial Oil Dartmouth Terminal in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on the morning of Sunday, January 27.

Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency (HRFE) firefighters were despatched to the scene after receiving a request for assistance from the crew of Kivalliq W at around 06:00 local time.

The tanker’s crew reportedly attempted to put the blaze under control on their own but were unable to do so, prompting them to call for help.

The HRFE firefighters arrived on scene and worked together with the crew to put out the fire.

Authorities confirmed that the fire was finally extinguished by 08:00 and that no injuries were reported.
