Schottel will equip four new ASD stock tugs from Netherlands-based the Damen Shipyards Group with examples of the Schottel SRP 270 rudder propeller.

The new multi-purpose tugs will each have a length of 18.25 metres, a beam of 10.23 metres, and a bollard pull of 30 tonnes. The rudder propellers will also ensure enhanced manoeuvrability.

The power rating of the SRP 270 amounts to 1,000 kW per unit, and each propeller will have a diameter of 1.9 metres. Each tug will be equipped with two rudder propellers.

Schottel’s proprietary slipping clutches will allow for smooth acceleration and improved handling of the thrusters. If needed, the slipping clutches can be easily upgraded to support firefighting capability.

The new tugs will be pre-produced for later sale at Damen Shipyards Changde in China. The first is scheduled to be completed before the end of this year.

The tugs can be optionally fitted with firefighting and crane systems amongst other equipment.
