The Northern Territory government has unveiled plans to put up a new marine industry park to serve various commercial and civil organisations near Darwin.

The 100-hectare facility will have ship repair and servicing capability. Among the planned equipment will be a 103- by 26-metre ship lift with a 5,000-tonne capacity, making it the largest lift of its kind in use in northern Australia.

The total project cost is estimated to be $400 million. Once completed, the Darwin Marine Industry Park will be capable of providing logistical and maintenance support for vessels from a wide range of organisations including fishing companies, ferry operators, oil and gas companies, the Border Force, and the Department of Defence.
