UAE’s Tristar orders hybrid bunkering barge from Turkish builder

UAE-based shipping company the Tristar Group has entered into an agreement with Turkey’s Akdeniz Shipyard for the construction of a new hybrid bunkering barge.

The 750-cubic-metre capacity bunkering vessel will have a large battery pack as well as diesel generators to serve as backup electrical power sources. When the generators are in use, these will discharge flue gases underwater so that GHG emissions into the atmosphere are significantly reduced.

The barge will also provide stores and supplies to vessels stopping at anchorage off the Port of Fujairah on the east coast of the UAE.

The vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2025.
