The US Coast Guard commissioned its newest Sentinel-class fast response cutter into service on Monday, October 18.

USCGC Emlen Tunnell is the fourth of six FRCs that will be homeported in Manama, Bahrain, as part of Patrol Forces Southwest Asia, the US Coast Guard’s largest overseas-deployed detachment.

Emlen Tunnell is the 45th Sentinel-class cutter to be built by Louisiana-based Bollinger Shipyards for the coast guard. The vessel has a length of 154 feet (46.9 metres), a flank speed of 28 knots, and a stern launch and recovery ramp for a 26-foot (7.92-metre) over-the-horizon interceptor boat.
