South Korean yard to build submarines for export market

South Korean shipbuilder HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) will commence construction of new submarines for export customers.

The submarine construction program will be undertaken with assistance from defence company the Babcock International Group.

Each of the submarines that will be built will have a displacement of no more than 3,000 tonnes and Babcock’s proprietary weapons handling and launch system. The system is compatible with torpedoes, mines, and missiles produced by various global manufacturers.
