South Korean yard secures orders for Peruvian Navy ships

South Korean shipbuilder HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has been selected as the preferred bidder for the local construction and co-production of four vessels slated for the Peruvian Navy.

The contract covers the construction of a frigate, an offshore patrol vessel (OPV), and two landing craft.

The 127-metre, 3,400-tonne frigate will have a maximum speed of 26.5 knots and a range of 6,000 nautical miles. Equipment will include AESA radars and anti-ship missile launchers.

The 95-metre, 2,200-tonne OPV will have a maximum speed of 20 knots and a range of 6,000 nautical miles. The hull will be able to accommodate a range of equipment modules to enable the vessel to perform specific missions.

The 58-metre, 1,500-tonne landing craft will each have a maximum speed of 10 knots and a range of 1,500-nautical miles. Each vessel will also have capacity for seven large armoured vehicles or twenty 20-foot containers.

Construction of the vessels will take place at the facilities of Peruvian state-owned shipbuilder SIMA. HHI will undertake the design work, the supply of equipment, and the provision of technical support.

The four ships will be sequentially handed over to the Peruvian Navy with conclusion of deliveries scheduled for 2029.
