Germany’s Bundeswehr has chosen the Type 707 class of ships to serve as the future fleet replenishment tankers in the country’s navy.

Slated to replace the German Navy’s two Type 704A or Rhön-class vessels by 2025, the 20,000-tonne Type 707 tankers will each have a cargo tank capacity of 15,000 cubic metres of fuel plus space for 20 containers.

The new tankers are expected to operate until the 2050s.
