Dredging to support ferry terminal construction in Carteret, New Jersey

The borough government of Carteret in Middlesex County, New Jersey, has confirmed that dredging works will be undertaken prior to the completion of a new ferry terminal.

The dredging constitutes the second phase of the terminal construction. The first phase entailed the installation of approximately 130 linear feet (39.6 metres) of steel sheet pile bulkhead along the Arthur Kill waterfront that will be home to the future terminal landing.

The dredging will cover the waterside of the bulkhead to achieve sufficient depths for the ferry slips and berthing area. The work includes removal of 19,500 cubic feet (552 cubic metres) of material.

The completed seven-acre (2.8-hectare) terminal will be used by ferries sailing between Carteret and New York City.
