Fire on Aframax tanker leaves two dead and 11 injured

A fire that broke out on an Aframax crude oil tanker docked in Turkey killed two people and injured 11 others on Monday, January 28.

LR2 Poseidon was undergoing maintenance repairs at the Tuzla Shipyard in Istanbul when an explosion occurred in one of the vessel’s machinery spaces.

The explosion was soon followed by a blaze which instantly killed two workers and left 11 others with burn injuries. One of the injured workers is reportedly in critical condition.

Turkish authorities have confirmed that the blaze was quickly extinguished.

Local prosecutors are currently investigating the incident.
