Belgian marine engineering firm CMB.Tech has secured an order for the development of an ammonia-powered container vessel in partnership with Norwegian companies Yara Clean Ammonia, North Sea Container Line, and Yara International.

The vessel, to be named Yara Eyde, will be a 1,400TEU, ice-class containership to be built at Qingdao Yangfan Shipbuilding in China. Scheduled for delivery by mid-2026, the ship will run on clean ammonia, serving routes in the North SEa between Porsgrunn, Norway, and Bremerhaven, Germany.

The vessel will be owned by Delphis, the container division of CMB.Tech, and operated by NCL Oslofjord, a joint venture between North Sea Container Line and Yara Clean Ammonia. The commercial operations will be managed by NCL’s existing setup while Yara Clean Ammonia will deliver ammonia fuel to the vessel.
