Bulker sinks following collision in Vung Tau, Vietnam; all on board rescued

A cargo ship sank following a collision with another vessel in the anchorage of the Port of Vung Tau in southern Vietnam on Tuesday, September 14.
The incident occurred when the Liberian-flagged cargo vessel Lisa Auerbach collided with the Vietnamese-flagged bulk carrier My An 1 at around 02:30 local time on Monday. The impact caused the latter vessel to sink within minutes.
The Vung Tau Port Authority coordinated the search and rescue (SAR) operation, which included installing buoys in the vicinity and warning other vessels to stay clear of the area.
The crew of Lisa Auerbach meanwhile rescued all 17 people who were on board the Vietnamese vessel. No serious injuries have been reported among the survivors.
Witnesses said My An 1 sank further until only its mast and smokestack remained above the surface.
The bulk carrier was en route to Ho Chi Minh City with a cargo of cement clinker totalling 9,900 tonnes at the time of the collision.
Port authorities are also continuing to monitor the area for any oil spills.
