DEME Offshore and Japanese contractor Penta-Ocean Construction have agreed to establish a joint venture that will focus on the construction of offshore wind farms in Japan.

The partners are currently in the process of establishing the joint venture company, whereby 51 per cent of the shares will be owned by Penta-Ocean and 49 per cent by DEME Offshore.

The partners said they hope to participate in Japan’s first wind farm auction round expected to take place this year. The country’s long-term goal is to develop 10 GW of offshore wind power by 2030.
