Dutch government seeks parliamentary approval for combat support ship construction

The Government of the Netherlands has submitted a formal request to the country’s parliament for the approval of construction of a new class of combat support ship for the Royal Netherlands Navy.

The new vessel will be improved variants of the Karel Doorman-class support ship. It will have a length of nearly 200 metres, a crew of 75, accommodation for an additional 75 people, and deck space for helicopters and cargo containers.

Upon receipt of parliamentary approval, Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding will begin construction of the vessel.

Delivery is expected for 2024.
