Chung Yang, BigLift order heavy lift vessel pair

South Korea’s Chung Yang Shipping (CY Shipping) and Netherlands-based BigLift Shipping have placed orders for two new heavy transport vessels in a series to be built by Jing Jiang Nanyang Shipbuilding in China.

The first vessel will be delivered to CY in the fourth quarter of 2025 and the second vessel will be handed over to BigLift in the second quarter of 2026.

The vessels were jointly designed by CY and BigLift to transport ultra-large and heavy modular cargoes worldwide, with a focus on reliable service speed, low accelerations, and optimised loading and discharge times. Because of the similar frame spacing, depth, ballast and tidal compensation capacity, they will be interchangeable with the BigLift vessels BigLift Barentsz and BigLift Baffin while offering even greater deck length and stern loading capability.

Each vessel will have an LOA of 180 metres, a beam of 43 metres, and an open cargo deck with a total area of 6,020 square metres. Cargoes can be loaded and discharged over the stern or side by Ro-Ro or skidding.
