Finnish shipping company Meriaura has placed an order for two new cargo vessels in a series to be built by Netherlands-based shipyard Royal Bodewes.

The vessels are scheduled for delivery to Meriaura in January and December 2026, respectively.

Each newbuilding will have a length of 105 metres, a deadweight tonnage of 6,750, and ice class 1A-certified hulls.

Meriaura said the ships will be capable of low-emission sailings. This will be possible through the use of biofuel made from recycled raw material produced by Meriaura subsidiary VG-Ecofuel.

The new vessels will be approximately 30 per cent larger than Meriaura’s current fleet of biofuel-powered ships.
