India’s Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has begun a project to upgrade the existing facilities at the Cochin Fishing Harbour in Thoppumpady, Kerala state.

Indian ports and shipping minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal said the modernisation of the harbour will augment the country’s fish and fish product exports, enabling these to help achieve a revenue goal equivalent to approximately US$182 million per year.

The works will include extensive dredging activities and construction of onshore facilities such as air-conditioned auction halls and a fish dressing area.
