Russia's United Shipbuilding Corporation, through its Admiralty Shipyards division, delivered the freezer trawler Mekhanik Shcherbakov (Механик Щербаков) to the Russian Fishery Company during a ceremony in Saint Petersburg on Friday, September 18.
The Project ST192 vessel is the sixth trawler completed under a 10-vessel contract signed in October 2017. The order forms part of Russia’s quota-based state investment scheme, which supports domestic fishing vessel construction and fleet renewal.
Mekhanik Shcherbakov is designed to catch up to 60,000 tonnes of fish annually. Her onboard factory can produce 60 to 80 tonnes of fillets and 80 tonnes of minced surimi per day.
Fishmeal production capacity is 250 tonnes per day.
The vessel’s freezing facilities can handle 400 tonnes each day, and her cargo holds provide 5,500 cubic metres of space. Processing the catch at sea allows the trawler to produce higher-value products while using material left from fillet and surimi production for fishmeal.
The all-steel vessel has an overall length of 108.2 metres and a beam of 21 metres. She has a service speed of up to 16 knots, an endurance of 45 days, and accommodation for 155 crew and processing personnel.
Its Russian Maritime Register of Shipping notation includes IA Super hull strengthening, Ice3 machinery certification and AUT1 automation. The ice-class provisions support operations in northern fishing grounds, while the 45-day endurance reduces the number of voyages required to fulfil catch quotas.
The ST192 design was developed by Russia’s Marine Engineering Bureau and Norwegian naval architecture firm Skipsteknisk.
