Russian state-owned shipbuilder Severnaya Verf has launched a new freezer longliner ordered by local fishing company Virma.
Gandvik-3 (Гандвик-3) belongs to the Project MT1112XL series of freezer longliners designed by Norwegian naval architecture firm Marin Teknikk. Gandvik-1 (Гандвик-1), the first example in the series, was delivered to Virma in 2025.
Gandvik-3 will be operated primarily in the North Atlantic particularly the Barents and Norwegian Seas, where she will be used to fish for cod and haddock for the Russian domestic market.
Construction of the vessel is being undertaken in compliance with Russian Maritime Register of Shipping rules.
Upon completion, the vessel will have a length of 59 metres, a beam of 13 metres, a displacement of 2,200 tonnes, and accommodation for up to 30 crewmembers.
She will be fitted with an automatic bottom longline system capable of catching select species and avoiding juvenile fish, a freezer hold with two layers of concrete and a capacity of 500 tonnes, and a factory with a rated daily processing capacity of 25 tonnes of frozen fillets, canned liver and other products.
The factory will also be capable of waste-free processing to enable the vessel to comply with international environmental standards.
The automatic longline system will be deployed into the water via a moonpool so that fishing can be done even under extreme weather conditions.
