Marine robotics specialist Ocean Infinity will establish a new robotic ship operations centre in Tasmania, the company said in a statement on Monday, February 19.

The new robotic operations centre in Tasmania is the third facility of its kind to be put up by Ocean Infinity. Two such facilities are already operational in the UK and Sweden, while a fourth is planned for Singapore.

David Field, Ocean Infinity’s Managing Director in Australia and New Zealand, said the new operations centre in Tasmania will give the company a more established infrastructure to deliver hydrography services for the Australian Government and also provide capacity to take on more work in the region.

Ocean Infinity plans to operate the first in its fleet of 36-metre unmanned ships from the Australian Operations Centre. The ships are suited to perform large-scale hydrography work, enabling the work to be conducted with fewer personnel at sea and with far fewer emissions compared to a conventional vessel.
