The Fisheries Research and Development Corporation (FRDC) is once again calling for investment opportunities that address priorities nominated by Research Advisory Committees (RACs), Industry Partnership Agreement (IPAs), co-ordination programs or national initiatives.

The FRDC said this does not preclude proposals being submitted that address non-nominated priorities but should nonetheless effectively demonstrate the need for funding support (e.g. though letters of support and/or co-investment) and alignment with the FRDC’s R&D Plan.

The FRDC’s R&D Plan 2020-2025 will involve the diverse stakeholders from across fishing and aquaculture, focusing on broad, cross-sectoral issues of national importance while also ensuring that jurisdictional and sector needs are met.

Project applications are invited to address priorities aimed at increasing the economic, social and environmental benefits of Australian fishing and aquaculture for indigenous, commercial and recreational stakeholders and the wider Australian community.

FRDC Managing Director Dr Patrick Hone says the priorities have been identified by stakeholders from indigenous, aquaculture and commercial fisheries and recreational fishers.

The priorities are informed by the five strategic outcomes of FRDC’s Research and Development Plan 2020-25, the priorities of the National Fisheries Plan and the National Agricultural Innovation Policy Statement.

Applications are to be submitted to the FRDC Fishnet Portal no later than February 15, 2023. Additional details can be viewed here.
