Norwegian partners to build ammonia-fueled tanker for local market

Norwegian shipping company Grieg Star Group and a local propulsion manufacturer will cooperate in the design and construction of a new ammonia tanker that will itself be powered by ammonia.

The partners plan to have the tanker distribute green ammonia from a factory in Berlevåg to various locations and end-users along the Norwegian coast. It is expected to be in service by 2024.

The project recently received NOK46.3 million (US$5.3 million) via Pilot-E, a funding scheme for the Norwegian business sector launched as a collaboration between the Research Council of Norway, Innovation Norway, and Enova.
