From Baird Maritime:

A very important book for anyone involved in any way with the management of recreational or other fisheries. It comprises the bulk of the presentations made at the Fourth World Recreational Fishing Conference in Norway in 2005.

Some of the presentations are disturbingly lightweight, comprising not much more than statistical summaries of recreational fishing activity in the countries represented. The standard however, improves noticeably as your proceed through the book.

For readers of this review the interaction of recreational fishermen with their commercial counterparts is of primary interest. That is not very well covered. Matters such as Marine Protected Areas are also examined.

If only to be forewarned and, therefore, forearmed, the commercial fishing industry should study this book closely. It will surely be used to justify the not always helpful activities of fisheries bureaucrats in many parts of the developed world. It is amazing how the commercial fishing industry has been almost completely ignored by practically every presenter. To most it seems simply to not exist. A worrying trend.
