Japanese shipping company Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL), through a 100 per cent-owned subsidiary, has entered into a long-term time charter party (TCP) agreement with Polish gas transmission system operator Gaz-System for the operation of a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) off the Port of Gdansk in Poland.

The FSRU will be constructed by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries of South Korea and is scheduled to be completed in 2027, and thereafter will be managed by the MOL Group.

A new floating LNG receiving terminal will also be constructed approximately three kilometres offshore from the Port of Gdansk.

MOL said this will be the first FSRU to be deployed in Poland and it will contribute to the strategic strengthening of the country’s energy security.
