Terminal Portuario Jinzhao Peru, a subsidiary of Chinese construction company Jinzhao, has been awarded a contract for the design, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of a new large port in San Juan de Marcona in Nazca province in southern Peru.

The contract awarded by the Peruvian government through the Private Investment Promotion Agency (Agencia de Promoción de la Inversión Privada; PROINVERSION) calls for the construction of two docks and three berths as well as the necessary equipment for the handling of bulk, containerised, general, and liquid cargo.

PROINVERSION said the port will be the third largest in Peru after El Callao and Chancay. Its completion will aid in various sectors such as tourism and the export of the region’s agricultural products.

The San Juan de Marcona port development project has a contract value equivalent to approximately US$405 million.
