Amador cruise port construction begins

The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) has begun construction of the Amador cruise port with a kick-off ceremony.

A cruise terminal will be built at Perico Island over the next 18 months on the Pacific side of Panama.

It will have two docks in which two cruise ships with a capacity of up to 5,000 passengers each (Oasis-class) can berth simultaneously.

The design and construction of the terminal was awarded by the AMP to the Cruceros del Pacifico consortium, which includes Jan De Nul Panama and the China Harbor Engineering Company (CHEC).

Jan De Nul will undertake all dredging and land reclamation works, including dredging the berth pocket, turning basin and access channel with a backhoe dredger and trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD).

A TSHD will be used to transport sand from a borrow area and reclaim an area of 8.3 hectares for the construction of all land-based facilities.
