CIMC Raffles starts construction of second LNG-powered Ro-Ro for Wallenius SOL

Yantai CIMC Raffles Shipyard began construction of a new Ro-Ro vessel for Sweden’s Wallenius SOL on Monday, June 8.

The Knud E. Hansen-designed ice class vessel will be the second in a series of LNG-powered Ro-Ro vessels ordered by Wallenius SOL. It will have a length of 241.7 metres, a beam of 35.2 metres, capacity for 5,800 lane metres, a speed of 20 knots, and two 685-cubic-metre LNG fuel tanks.

The vessel and its sister, whose construction began in March 2020, will be the largest LNG-powered freight only Ro-Ro vessels in the world.
