Australian volunteer search and rescue (SAR) organisation Marine Rescue NSW has completed conducting sea trials of two recently acquired rigid inflatable boats (RIBs).

Brunswick 30 and Trial Bay 30 belong to the same series of RIBs built by Yamba Welding and Engineering (YWE). Design work on the boats was undertaken by Naiad Design of New Zealand, YWE’s affiliate company under The Whiskey Project Group.

Each RIB has a length of 10 metres and two Suzuki outboard engines that deliver a top speed of 42 knots.

The RIBs were designed to be capable of being launched directly into and recovered from the beach with the aid of a specialised trailer. Each boat is light enough to allow quick deployment and retrieval but is also able to withstand impact through the bow during beach launching operations, helping reduce crew fatigue and ensuring a longer service life.

The New South Wales government has contributed to the cost of both SAR vessels to support the work of Marine Rescue NSW.
