Spanish naval shipbuilder Navantia has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Naviris, the joint venture formed by Italy’s Fincantieri and France’s Naval Group, with the aim of increasing collaboration on the European Patrol Corvette (EPC) programme.

The parties to the MOU have confirmed that the design requirements of the project will be finalised within this year.

Measuring no more than 110 metres long and designed to be powered by diesel and/or electric engines, the new corvettes will be of modular construction to allow various mixes of payloads and systems to be installed depending on mission requirements.
