Qatar takes delivery of second Al Zubarah-class corvette

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri handed over a new corvette to the Qatari Ministry of Defence on Thursday, April 28.

The future Damsah is the second of four Al Zubarah-class corvettes ordered for the Qatari Emiri Navy. The ships’ missions will include surface combat, sea surveillance, and search and rescue (SAR).

The future Damsah measures 107 by 14.7 metres and is powered by a combined diesel and diesel (CODAD) propulsion arrangement that delivers a maximum speed of 28 knots.

The corvette also has space for 112 crewmembers and other personnel, a helicopter deck with hangar, and facilities for launching and recovering rigid inflatable boats (RIBs).
